As soon as I walked onto the grounds at Talon Winery in Lexington, I could feel the energy building. You know what they say about best-laid plans, right? Mother Nature crashed Mike and Katie’s Talon Winery wedding with an unexpected surprise of her own. Just as we were wrapping up the ceremony and getting ready for family photos, I caught those telltale dark clouds rolling in over the vineyard.

The Dance Floor Came Alive

From here on out, the Talon Winery wedding went from “really fun” to “absolutely legendary.” The second – and I mean the SECOND Mike and Katie were officially married -, the party switch flipped to maximum overdrive.

I’ve photographed plenty of receptions where it takes a few drinks and some coaxing to get people moving. Not in thiscrowd. These folks were ready to celebrate before the couple even returned down the aisle. The energy was so infectious that I danced along to the music while shooting. This is always an encouraging sign of what’s about to unfold on the dance floor.

Katie had been stressing about her wedding day hair with the Kentucky heat and humidity threatening to turn her perfectly styled look into a frizzy mess. But some of my favorite parts of any wedding day are the unexpected connections that happen when you put amazing people in the same space and let them celebrate together.
